I played lawn bowls!
Because my team won the "who's the best team" award for January, we got an afternoon off at the club. Now, I've blogged before about this silly competition - I don't like the idea of being in competition with my colleagues - but they do nice things for us when we win.
There was a lot of talk about what we were going to do - paintball, gokarting, golf... but then they came up with bowls, which is about the only option that I would have considered participating in. I've always liked the idea of bowls - it's a game of pure skill and has nothing to do with athletic prowess. I'm not good at most sports, because I'm not exactly an athlete. But lawn bowls doesn't require running, doesn't require jumping, doesn't require much other than walking up and down the field every now and again.
I did get a little bit sunburned. I kind of expected that. But it was cool. It was fun. And I totally rocked!
After about ten bowls, I really started to get my hand in, putting bowl after bowl within a meter of the jack. The closest I got (which was not the best bowl of the day) was a handspan. That's about 20cm for my hand. Pretty good going for my first go.
I would totally do this again.
