Well, this is a record for me.
A while back I received a Friend invitation from a guy I knew in year 11, and who I haven't seen since. He's now living in the UK. It was very cool to hear from him.
I just got a note from the older brother of a kid I was friends with in primary school, and who I haven't seen since.
The people that pop up.

So a random just sent me a friend request on Facebook. I checked her profile, she and I have no friends in common, and I was thoroughly confused about who she was. So I sent her a message, basically asking her politely who she was and how she found me.
Here's what I received in response:
Okay. That's my first ignored Friend request on Facebook.

Wow. I've now got 42 Friends on Facebook.
I move only in a few circles. There's the Smithfield circle, the Gaming circle, the Skeptic circle, the AAF circle and the LJ circle. And in those circles I've now got forty-two Friends. Count 'em.

There's an email I've got sitting in my inbox. It's just one of the myriad of Facebook notifications that I get because I haven't got around to turning them off yet, but it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I'm just letting it sit there, so I can see it whenever I check my inbox.

Well, so there's this application on Facebook called "Owned!" where you can "buy" photos of people. It resembles a real economy in kind of the same way that breakdancing resembles Giselle. Anyway, one of my photos was recently sold for $3421. Pseudo$, of course. You get P$ by buying, selling, inviting (of course) and giving away your photos. It's not bad, but it's not awesome either. There are a couple of my FB friends whose photos are currently going for upwards of $24,000.

I have to admit, I've been getting a lot of traction with Facebook recently. I'm sure that the infatuation will pass eventually.
My advice to anyone who doesn't use Facebook a lot - disable email notifications. Facebook will email you for just about anything. A lot of the applications require or desire you to invite a certain number of friends, and of course that means sending emails if they have notifications undisabled. Got rid of them if you're not going for the whole Facebook paradigm.
Myself, I'm finding it rather cool. Which is a shock.
