What the hell was wrong with Rock-Paper-Scissors as it was? Absolutely nothing. The real question is...what the hell is wrong with ME? Since there was already a 5-gesture variant using "Spock" and "Lizard" out there, I decided to try and come up with my own version using an unprecedented SEVEN gestures, just for (my definition of) fun.UPDATE 1/3/2005: Today I decided to keep going.

(In other words, just finished the game, and it was fantastic. I love seat-of-the-pants GM improvisation. But it's late and I'm not going to sit up and write it tonight like I have the last two games. Probably sometime over the weekend.)

Remember Titan? The "Fantasy Monster Slug-A-Thon" released by Avalon Hill in 1982 that took an age to play? Wonderful game.
There is an online Java-based version of the game - did you know that? I have been vaguely aware of it for some time, but I've only now got around to actually trying it out. It's good. It takes much less time to play than the boardgame version. And it's the full game - it's completley functional, with all the rules, and code that actually works.
If you, like me, are a Titan player from wayback, then you should probably check it out. Click on the Colossus chit at the top of the page to start playing.

OK, I'll put this behind a cut to save those who don't really care that much about gaming, but last night was a really fun game.

The best quote from gaming last night:
Rack and What's-on are talking on the phone.
Rack: So there's a new band in town. They're called "Keep Your Head Down"
What's-on: Really?
Rack: Yeah. They're supported by "All Points Bulletin".
What's-on: What's the cover charge?
Rack: $1000
What's-on: What!? Is that all? That's ludicrous!
Yes, our little cyberpunk team got themselves in some trouble recently. But we've got a plan, and it's called Operation Rescue The Princess.

Mark will be taking Tor Ironforge, Antti will be Thyla Rhiallanyng, Myk will be Larian Whyath, Steve will be "The Shadow", Victor will be Marbo Tormlek, and Tom will be Telnash Wildermeet. I will be contacting everybody by email, but I would like to run the first session on Monday evening, 12th February. Offers of location will be greatly appreciated.
Oh, by the way, Mark and Antti, I need your email addresses.

For those who are interested in playing in my D&D campaign, I've set up a folder on my website for the game. I have posted descriptions of the six pregen characters I have created. I will be accepting bids for characters from now. I've already had an expression of interest in Tor Ironforge from
irishmark, but the others are available.
That said, I actually do have certain people in mind for a couple of the characters. It'll be interesting to see whether my ideas are accurate.
Check it out, dudes!

This year I'm considering running a D&D campaign using the campaign pack Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. I'm thinking of running probably monthly. 5-6 characters, Good alignments only, Dwarf Cleric mandatory.
Just testing the waters here - nothing firm, but do I have any takers?

So you know I'm in this cyberpunk game.
I know most of you probably aren't interested in the gritty details about my roleplaying exploits, so I'll just provide a link here to the fictionalised between-game email interactions that I've been having with another player (Sarah, from the AAF). That way, you don't have to read it if you don't want to.

Oh, and
curufea, this may contain some in-game information that your character doesn't have access to. I know you can firewall, but, you know, just to let you know.

Well, I got my wish. I'm in a Cyberpunk RPG, first session last night. And it was great. My gruff and confident ex-army character was totally in the dark about what was happening at almost every point, while my fixer/face man organised deals, betrayed employers, got the dingus to the right people and arranged a huge monetary reward while keeping good relations with everyone he had betrayed. It was fantastic. And I didn't fire a single shot. The most violence there was when I knocked out a goon with the butt of my pistol.
Happy now.

I'd love to play a roleplaying game sometime. I've spent so much time in the past GMing, that I am desparate for thw opportunity to play a character.
I promise to provide plenty of hooks for the GM in my character concept, and to develop and play a character that has history and personality. I'd prefer a D&D game, because I'm most familiar with the rules, but any roleplaying system will be OK. At the moment my mindset is on Fantasy rather than sci-fi, but at the moment I'm so desparate I'm not going to be picky. One exception: World Of Darkness games. I'm afraid that with Shadowkin, I'm totally over White Wolf.
Please let me know if you have an opportunity for a serious, dedicated, fun-loving roleplayer to join your campaign.

Metascape is one of the most successful games I've run. Unfortunately, I suffered from a serious case of GM's block, and it kind of petered out. But summaries of my campaign can be found at my old, hopeless, pathetic geocities page.
Anyway, this was a great game, and someone (you know who you are) has pestered me... well.. OK, mentioned it occasionally... to write it up as a novel. And I'm doing it. Or at least trying to do it.
I'll probably want to consult with
politas and
yasutani about some details of the plot occasionally, since they were both in the game. And I'll probably also ask
capnoblivious and
saffie to take a look over it and tell me how to turn it into something that someone may one day want to read. At the moment it's just raw narrative. In particular, there's not much in the way of characterisation. I know what the characters were like, but I'm just not sure how to convey their individual personalities properly.
So yeah. I'm getting it down, in a vaguely novel-like form. And this is a good thing.

So my Paranoia didn't go off. Shame. As soon as I get another player I'll reschedule it. It's cool. It'll happen.
Meanwhile...
I bought a roleplaying game many years ago called Skyrealms of Jorune. The system is nothing to write home about, but the setting is absolutely magnificent. Utterly, utterly magnificent.
I'm thinking about starting up a game. However, I have a problem.
It's one of those games that I love completely. But I can never think of adventures to send players on. It's like there's this setting which is brilliant in and of itself, and there's no need for me to come up with things that players can do in it. It's like a great work of art. You wouldn't create a roleplaying game out of the Mona Lisa. Mind you, one based on Bernini's Ecstasy of St Teresa............. but no, I digress.
I'm ordering a couple of items from Chessex, and I hope this will trigger some of my GMness.
What I really need here is a big idea. I'm looking at doing a campaign for a very small number of players. I usually like to work with 5 players, but I want to try and come up with something that works well with three (or maybe four) players.
One of the disadvantages with Jorune is that the system is pretty darn clunky. There have been a bunch of conversions posted - GURPS, Hero, PLUS, j20 (which seems to have vanished). I'm planning on starting work on an Ultimate Power conversion. For those in the know, this is basically the Metascape system (about which more in a moment). This is probably going to take a while, but I think it will make the game a whole lot more playable.
Herewith a couple of invites:
vonne, I've already got a character in mind for you. Can you say "all limp and boring!"? I knew you could.
politas, do you think you might like to play an inexperienced politician?
OK. This is only a preliminary. At the moment I am more interested in getting another Paranoia player.
